What makes coached group fitness different from a regular gym class?
A class can tell you what to do. Coaching pays attention to how you do it.
Group fitness can mean a lot of different things.Sometimes it means following an instructor from the front of a room.Sometimes it means everyone doing the same workout, the same way, at the same pace.Sometimes it is simply a room full of people exercising at the same time.At Fitness Artist, we believe group training should be different. It should still feel like coaching.
A class and a coached session are not the same thing.
A traditional fitness class often begins with one workout and asks everyone in the room to follow along.
That can work well for some people. But people do not all move the same. They do not have the same training history. They do not have the same strength. They do not have the same injuries, limitations or confidence.Good coaching recognizes that. The goal is not to create forty different workouts. The goal is to coach the people actually standing in front of you.
Same room. Different people. Active coaching.

What active coaching actually looks like.

Coaching is not standing at the front of the room and counting down the clock. It means being involved. Our coaches circulate through the training floor.
- They watch movement.
- They teach.
- They correct.
- They adjust loads.
- They offer progressions.
- They offer regressions.
- They answer questions.
- They challenge people when they are ready.
They pull people back when better movement matters more than doing more. The workout matters. The person doing the workout matters more.
Modifications should not feel like failure.
One of the biggest misconceptions about group fitness is that everyone should be able to do the same thing. That is not how real training works. One person may squat with a barbell.Someone else may use a dumbbell.Another person may need a different range of motion.Someone with more training experience may need a more challenging variation.Someone newer may need more time learning the movement. Those are not lesser versions of the workout. They are coaching decisions.
The right exercise is the one that makes sense for the person doing it.

Strength and conditioning. Not random exercise.

A workout can make you tired.Training should help you improve.SWEAT combines strength training and conditioning in a coached group environment. That may include:
- 01Strength work
- 02Cardiovascular conditioning
- 03Work capacity
- 04Movement quality
- 05Coordination
- 06Power
- 07Muscular endurance
The goal is not simply to burn as many calories as possible. The goal is to build a stronger, more capable person over time.
Hard work matters. Purpose matters too.

Energy without anonymity.
One of the best things about group fitness is the energy.Music.Movement.People working hard around you.Accountability.Momentum.But a larger group should not mean becoming invisible. At Fitness Artist, we want members to feel known.Coaches should know your name. They should notice how you move. They should know when something needs to be adjusted. And the people around you should notice when you show up.
Community works better when people feel seen.
Do I need to be in shape before joining group fitness?
No.You do not need to “get fit first.”That idea keeps too many people waiting for the perfect time to start.A coached environment should meet you where you are.Movements can be taught.Loads can be adjusted.Conditioning can be scaled.Confidence can be built. You do not need to prove you belong in the room before entering it.
Start where you are. Let coaching take it from there.
How is coached group training different from an open gym?
An open gym gives you access to equipment. That can be exactly what an experienced, self-directed person wants. But equipment does not coach you.It does not tell you what to do today. It does not notice your technique. It does not adjust the plan when something does not feel right. It does not create accountability when motivation drops.A coached group environment gives you structure, direction and people around you.You show up.The training is prepared. The coach is there.Your job is to participate.
Who is coached group fitness for?
SWEAT may be a strong fit if you:
Want the energy of training with other people
Prefer not having to design your own workouts
Want strength and conditioning in one training system
Appreciate coaching and exercise modifications
Want accountability and consistency
Like being part of a community
Want to work hard without feeling like you have to already be an athlete
The point is not to make everyone train the same. The point is to help different people train well in the same environment.
Explore SWEATWhen might small-group coaching make more sense?
Some people want more coaching attention than a larger group can reasonably provide. You may have more specific goals. You may want closer progress tracking. You may have a more complicated training history.Or you may simply prefer a smaller environment. That is where SHAPE fits.SHAPE gives you more coaching access while still letting you train around other people.

The Fitness Artist difference.
Fitness Artist is not built around the idea that the workout itself is the product.Coaching is the product. The workout is one tool we use.Whether someone is training in SWEAT or SHAPE, the standard is the same.Coaches should teach.Coaches should adjust.Coaches should communicate.Coaches should pay attention.Members should feel noticed.Training should have purpose.
That is what Coached With Purpose means to us.
Want the energy of group fitness without disappearing in the room?
